GEORGE A. SHUMWAY, JR 19 DECEMBER 1928 - 1 MAY 2011 For over 30 years George Shumway researched, wrote, photographed, and published information on the history and art of longrifles and related subjects. His home in York, Pennsylvania was ideally located for studies in this field. Important schools of longrifle making were located in York, Lancaster, and surrounding towns of Pennsylvania in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. A true educator, he was always willing to share his knowledge with those who were interested. His books, available on this website, are his legacy. |
