Dr. George Shumway has been actively involved since 1962 studying, researching, writing about, and publishing books and articles concerning early American flintlock and percussion longrifles. His home in York County Pennsylvania is ideally located for studies in this field, because an important school of longrifle making was located in York in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and the city is close to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and other towns where the trade was carried on in this period. He and his wife, Dorothy, operate the business George Shumway Publisher, Inc. that produces books concerning the longrifle and related subjects.
